Here are a list of Newton User Groups!  Please send me mail if
information here needs to be updated!

Please distribute this document far and wide. The more people who get
it the better.

Opinion
-------

If you are a Newton user, then please support your local User Group.
Every week there are new Newton users who have questions and
problems.  These questions can usually be answered if User Groups
have a lot of people at each meeting.

If you work for Apple, please support Newton User Groups more. They
are your first line of Newton Technical Support and by far the
biggest group of Evangelists for the Newton.

* STANFORD NEWTON USER GROUP (SNUG)

Meets at 7 pm on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the
Printer's Inc Bookstore Cafe, 310 California Ave, Palo Alto. Contact

* SAN DIEGO NEWTON USER GROUP (SDNUG)

Meets at 7 pm every third Thursday, so the next one is 04/20/95.
Location has stablized to: Brooktree Corporation, 9868 Scranton Road,
San Diego, CA 92121. This is in Sorrento Valley. To get on the SDNUG

* BOSTON COMPUTER SOCIETY NEWTON/PDA USERS GROUP

The BCS Newton/PDA User Group is the oldest Newton Users Group in the
world (established Spring 1992 - more than a year before the official
rollout!). We meet in Cambridge MA, at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, in room 3-133. Meetings are held at 7 pm on the second
Thursday of each month. Everyone is welcome.

At every meeting there are megabytes of freeware and shareware available.
We'll also trade tips and hints, share news and rumors, and check out
demos of commercial applications. And after the meeting, we often go
nosh at one of Cambridge's fine eating establishments or sample the
outstanding caffeine and desserts at the Liberty Cafe, New England's
premiere cyber-coffeehouse.

* BOSTON COMPUTER SOCIETY NEWTON PROGRAMMERS COLLECTIVE

The BCS NPC was organized to facilitate communication and cooperation
among the Newton developers community. We meet once a month, at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge MA, in room 3-133.
Meetings are held at 7 pm on the fourth Thursday of each month. Meetings
are open to everyone.

Meetings often include short seminars on different aspects of Newton
programming, demos of software/hardware of interest to developers and
regular Q&A sessions. For more info on this month's meeting, call Jeff

* POOR NEWTON OWNERS

Philadelphia Organization of Responsible Newton Owners (POOR Newton
Owners, with apologies to B. Franklin). Meets (mostly) on the last
Wednesday of the month at various locations. For information contact:

* AUSTRALIAN NEWTON USERS GROUP

OzNUG (the Australian Newton Users Group) headquartered in Sydney,
Australia, has grown rapidly to over 350 members Australia-wide, and
has chapters in Melbourne, Adelaide Brisbane and Perth. Membership is
$30 per annum.

The Sydney group meets at 6:30 pm on the third Wednesday of every

* OZNUG Charter

OzNUG is a Australian non-profit organisation of people who have an
interest in Newton technology in whatever form it is available. We are
based in Sydney, but have established local branches in most capital
cities.  We have no allegiance with any particular vendor of Newton
based products although we encourage all vendors to support the group.

The purpose of the group is to:

1. Help members to get the most out of their Newton technology and
   keep them informed of new developments in the Newton world

2. Provide an opportunity for members to review new applications,
   hardware platforms and accessories that use or enhance Newton
   technology

3. Provide case studies of successful implementations of Newton
   technology

4. Provide a channel through which members can share ideas, opinions
   & knowledge and give feedback to appropriate vendors and software
   developers

* UNITED KINGDOM NEWTON GROUP

UKNewt- The Independent Association for UK Newton Owners is a Non-Profit
making organisation that aims to promote the interests of UK owners of
devices using Newton technology. We are publishing a printed newsletter
(Currently quarterly) and have also negotiated a range of discounts for
our subscribing members. As a national organisation we do not hold
regular meetings but we do hope to organise a ntional conference. We
will also act as an umbrella organisation for smaller local groups.

* NORTH ATLANTA NEWTON USERS GROUP

The North Atlanta Newton Users Group was founded in October of 1993,
NANUG (for short) was created with these ideas in mind:

    * To provide timely and correct information about the Newton
      and all of its accessories, software packages, and other
      Newton-related products

    * To assist new and experienced Newton users in getting the
      most out of their purchase

    * To provide a (hopefully) un-biased forum for the exchange
      of user tips, hints, and suggestions

    * To provide free or low-cost resources for small to medium
      Newton development projects

There is no membership fee to join NANUG, and current membership numbers
over 700, with more than ninety percent of them living outside the
Atlanta regional area.  Local meetings are held the second Tuesday of
the month, and on-line meetings are held on various services about once
a month, depending on the local service's schedule.

_protoReality, our newsletter, is published once a month (normally on
the 25th) in four formats:  a Newton Book Reader package, a WWW
document, a "binary enhanced" text document, and a "plain" text
document.  Each format strives to convey as much information as
possible within the constraints of the media.  The three file formats
are posted to all major on-line services and Newton sites, and the path
to our web page is:

NANUG also locally distributes a "best of" diskette of the best
shareware applications, books, and other Newton files that are posted
on commercial services for the benefit of those who do not subscribe to
them.  We also provide a software "kiosk" at the meeting to allow our
members who don't have a personal computer to download these files to
their Newton.  For our "remote" users, we have a shared ftp site with
the Arizona Macintosh UG, ftp.amug.org which has our files under their
<ftp://pub/newton/nanug directory>

* MID-ATLANTIC NEWTON DEVELOPERS ASSOCIATION

Meets at 6:30pm until 9:30pm the first Monday of the month at the

* SOUTH FLORIDA NUG

The South Florida NUG is getting bigger everyday.  The SFNUG now

* CHIILNUG

ChiILNUG Meeting 3.16.95 7:00PM

Motorola's Marco Madness at the 2.22 meet of the Chicago, IL Newton User's
Group.  T-shirts, free software courtesy of Robert Johnson of PDA Direct,
dueling Marco's!  One Marco (wireless Newton) on loan for our meeting, a
special guest appearance by a product manager from the wireless division of
Motorola, with her a second Marco, wireless ink, email, faxes fill the
RadioMailwaves (cellular paper).

Meet Newton shareware guru Ben Gottlieb at our next meet.  Ben has authored
dozens of apps, including contact master, what error?, drop to do, and his
current hot item; wake up week.

The tenth meeting of the Chicago IL Newton Users Group will be held at
McCarthy & Magee, Inc. 9950 West Lawrence Ave., Suite # 200, Schiller Park,

The site is one stoplight south of the intersection of routes 190 and
Mannheim road, or the corner of Lawrence and Mannheim.  Our building is the
Starlight Building, the one right on the northeast corner of Mannheim and
Lawrence.  Take the elevator to the second floor, our suite is right in front
as you exit the elevator.

* NEW YORK CITY NEWTON USER GROUP

The New York City Newton User Group meets the third Wednesday of each
month. Meetings include information (and rumor) exchange, general
discussion, demos and raffles of Newton software.

We have a Newton group now too (with 30 people showing up so far).
Arizona Macintosh Users Group, Newton FIG (Fun interest group). Our
main Mac meeting is every third thursday of the month. The Newton FIG
is always the following Tuesday, at 7 pm. Meets at 4131 N. 24th

The MPadClub is based in France.  They have a First Class server

You can anonymously FTP the latest and past issues of NewtNews in both
text and Macintosh Newton book format from
<ftp://io.com/pub/usr/btorres/NewtNews> This is the official home of
NewtNews. There is also a very useful document in this directory called
NewtNews_Info. Please read it. It will tell you about the email
listserver and other important information. The FTP site is
administered by Bob Torres <[e-mail]>.

There is also a WWW site for NewtNews.  Use your favorite Mosaic
